Prairie Village Mayor Ron Shaffer is expected tonight to recommend appointment of a Ward 5 resident to fill the remainder of ouster city councilor David Morrison’s term.
The city council packet shows Shaffer will nominate Courtney McFadden to take Morrison’s place. McFadden is a manager at AT&T who oversees 20 accounts in the metro area. He application to the position states that she works with several local charities.
Morrison’s seat on the council has been empty since Johnson County Judge David Hauber on Oct. 18 affirmed a non-binding jury’s decision that Morrison’s conduct in letting a homeless man with a drug history stay unattended at Prairie Village city hall constituted grounds for removal. Morrison has suggested he will fight the judge’s decision in court — and that he may consider running for the other Ward 5 council seat when it comes up for election next year.
Morrison went unopposed when he sought and won reelction in 2012. His term on the council had been set to run through 2016.
