The superintendent of the Turner School District in Wyandotte County has been approved for a new cabinet level position of associate superintendent for human resources in the Shawnee Mission School District. Dr. Michelle Hubbard’s contract was approved by the Shawnee Mission board this week.
Dr. Hubbard has been in the Turner School District for more than 20 years. She has been a paraprofessional, teacher, assistant principal, elementary and high school principal and assistant superintendent of curriculum. The Turner district has approximately 4,000 students.
Human resources in Shawnee Mission has been overseen by a director of human resources and reported up to the cabinet level through Deputy Superintendent Robert DiPierro, who is leaving the district this spring. Shawnee Mission Superintendent Jim Hinson said Hubbard will fill the vacant director’s spot, but the position will be elevated to cabinet level.
Earlier this year, Kenny Southwick was added to the cabinet as deputy superintendent and DiPierro’s departure was announced. A number of other administrative changes below cabinet level have been made in the district this year.
UPDATED: Hubbard’s contract with Shawnee Mission will begin July 1, 2015, and run through June 30, 2018. She will be paid $164,076 per year.
