The shakeup of roles at the Shawnee Mission School District’s central office continues.
Three days after the school board approved the hiring of three new assistant superintendents, Shawnee Mission’s current Associate Superintendent of Administrative Services for Secondary Education Gillian Chapman announced she had accepted an offer to become the superintendent of Teton County School District No. 1 in Jackson, Wyo. Figures from 2008 show an enrollment of just under 2,300 students for the district.
Chapman has been in her current role with Shawnee Mission since 2008. Her first day with Teton County will be July 1.
Under the new organizational chart released by Superintendent Jim Hinson in December, Shawnee Mission will have a director of secondary services who reports to an Assistant Superintendent for Instructional Leadership. That role will be filled by Michelle Hubbard, currently the superintendent of the Turner School District. There will no longer be any associate superintendents.
“We are pleased to congratulate Dr. Chapman on her selection as superintendent,” Hinson said in a release. “We appreciate Dr. Chapman’s many years of dedicated service to the students of Shawnee Mission and wish her well in her new role.”
Chapman began her career with Shawnee Mission as a French and Spanish teacher at Shawnee Mission Northwest in 1994. She moved on to roles as an associate principal at that school and as principal at Hocker Grove Middle School before joining the central office staff. Last year, Chapman signed a contract with the Shawnee Mission district that runs through June 2015 and paid her a salary of $151,083.
Chapman is the second cabinet-level official to announce a departure from the district since Hinson’s arrival in 2013. Deputy Superintendent of Operations Bob DiPierro will officially leave the district in April after the school board approved an early retirement agreement for him in July 2014.
