SM North rep Sara Goodburn named Shawnee Mission School Board President

Sara_GoodburnSara Goodburn, the SM North area representative on the Shawnee Mission Board of Education, will serve as that body’s president for the 2015-16 school year.

The motion to appoint Goodburn to the president’s seat came during the district’s annual organizational meeting held Monday.

Gooburn replaces SM South area representative Deb Zila, who had served in the role for several years, going back to the time of the vote to close Mission Valley Middle School.

Goodburn, who was first elected to the board in 2011, easily fended off a challenge from Mark Ellis to earn reelection earlier this year. Prior to being elected to the school board, she served as a president of the Roesland Elementary PTA and a member of the Indian Hills PTA executive board. She is also president of the SM North booster club.

The board named Craig Denny vice president for the 2015-16 school year.
