Four years after she graduated from Shawnee Mission East, Prairie Village native Addie Steiner is working to take her soccer career to the professional level.
Steiner attended her first three years of college at Northwestern, where she was twice named All-Big Ten second team, before transferring to the University of Hawaii for her senior season. With the Rainbow Warriors, she was named first team All-Big west and netted four game-winning goals.
After she wrapped up her final year of college play this fall, Steiner headed to work out with with the Seattle Reign of the National Women’s Soccer League. While she didn’t win a spot on the roster, the coaches invited her to keep training. That got her wondering about the option of training with FC Kansas City, her hometown NWSL club that features stars such as Sydney Leroux and Amy Rodriguez. Steiner reached out to the coaching staff, and they invited her to work out with the club here in KC. She moved back home, and started training with the club.
Earlier this month, she got to sub in during one of FC Kansas City’s pre-season games. Steiner said she’s relishing the opportunity to get experience to the game at the next level.
“It is extremely different than in college,” she said. “The pace is so much faster, and the touches are much quicker.”
She plans to continue to train with FC Kansas City through the spring, and then play on one of its developmental teams over the summer.
She’s finishing up her classwork for the University of Hawaii online, and expects to take her degree next winter.
