Shawnee Mission schools this week are asking students, teachers and parents to go the extra mile to make the people they come into contact with each day feel safe and welcome.
For the second year in a row, Shawnee Mission schools are participating in the Great Kindness Challenge — and they aren’t taking the challenge lightly.
“We have big goals for this week: If every student and staff member in the Shawnee Mission School District completes 50 acts of kindness in 1 week, that equal more than 1.5 million kind acts,” reads a message from the district.
Many schools are holding kick-off events this morning, including Benninghoven Elementary, where Shawnee Mayor Michelle Distler is set to reach a proclamation announcing the city’s intent to focus on kindness this week as well.
Schools will be documenting some of the acts of kindness in their communities using the hashtag #greatkindnesschallenge on social media.
