Looking for an activity for kids out of school for the summer these next few weeks?
This year’s Parks Passport Challenge has begun. As a way to celebrate National Parks and Recreation Month, six cities in Northeast Johnson County have launched the 2018 Park Passport Program. Participants have until 5 p.m. Aug. 10 to visit one designated park for each city, including Fairway, Leawood, Merriam, Mission, Prairie Village and Roeland Park. The program began July 1 and ends Aug. 5.
Completed entries will be eligible for prizes, including a grand prize of 2019 Pool Membership and Superpass or $150 Park and Recreation Voucher to one of the six participating cities of your choice. Other prizes are 2019 Superpasses or $50 Park and Recreation Voucher.
Passports are available online or at Prairie Village City Hall. Inside the passports are notable facts and questions about each of the designated parks. Completed passports may be submitted online or at city hall in any of the participating cities.
The six parks in the passport program — different from last year’s list — are:
- Shawnee Indian Mission State Historic Site (3403 W. 53rd St.)
- Ironwoods Park (14701 Mission Road)
- Quail Creek Park (7024 Grandview Ave.)
- Streamway Park (5150 Foxridge Drive)
- Taliaferro Park (2900 W. 79th St.)
- Granada Park (5150 Granada St.)
