Shawnee PD investigates attempted robbery at bank inside Walmart. A man unsuccessfully attempted to rob the bank inside of a Shawnee Walmart on Saturday afternoon. Shawnee Police were called to the Academy Bank inside the Walmart store at 16100 W. 65th St. just before 3:30 p.m. “A subject approached the teller at Academy Bank and demanded she give him all the money,” says Shawnee Police Department public information officer Major Jason Brunner. “No weapon was displayed, and the teller told him ‘no.’” The suspect was only described as a white male with a beard, and he left the area without further incident. The FBI typically investigates bank robberies and robbery attempts. On Monday morning, when asked who would be investigating this incident, Major Brunner stated, “I don’t have any further information at this time as to what agency is going to investigate this.”

AdventHealth Shawnee Mission begins demo work on Life Dynamics building. AdventHealth began demolishing its Life Dynamics building, 9120 W. 75th Street, on Monday. Formerly Antioch Elementary School, the building was in need of great repair and no longer needed, Communications Manager Morgan Shandler said in an email to the Shawnee Mission Post. By demolishing the building, AdventHealth is able to bring back the greenspace lost when the Gateway Building at 75th Street and Frontage Road opened in late 2019. Shandler said AdventHealth hopes this will also open up the campus’ entryway and provide a clearer view of the hospital. The outpatient rehab services and community wellness and fitness center previously housed in the Life Dynamics building have been moved to the Woodland Hills building, 7315 Frontage Road. Additionally, Britain Development moved to the brand new B.E. Smith Family Center in May 2019.
