Mission Gateway construction put on hold over concerns about COVID-19 social distancing

For the past few months, long-awaited progress on the Mission Gateway development had been coming along at last.

Crews were hard at work on the Cinergy complex, a 90,000 square foot entertainment venue with movie theatres, bowling lanes, an arcade and more. Construction was on pace for a planned opening late this summer — a milestone for the site that had sat vacant for 15 years.

It looks like Mission residents may have to wait a little while longer to see that milestone hit.

The city announced Friday that work on the site was being temporarily halted amid efforts to stem the spread of the coronavirus.

“With more than 70 employees on site, concerns about maintaining appropriate separation have been mounting,” read a message from the city posted on Twitter.

The city said the developer and VCC, the contractor overseeing the project, anticipate resuming work in 30 days.
