An Overland Park man is dead after being hit by a vehicle Sunday morning.
Captain Todd Chappell with Overland Park Police says officers were called to the 12100 block of Quivira Road at approximately 10:17 a.m.
“Preliminary reports were that a vehicle was attempting to turn northbound onto Quivira when it collided with a vehicle traveling southbound,” Chappell said in a news release. “This caused the southbound vehicle to lose control and veer off the roadway, striking the male pedestrian who was walking nearby.”
Overland Park firefighters and Johnson County Med-Act paramedics responded and transported the pedestrian in critical condition to the Overland Park Regional Medical Center.
One driver was also transported by ambulance with minor injuries.
“We received word a short time later that the pedestrian had died as a result of his injuries,” Chappell said. “The victim is an adult male and resident of Overland Park.”
Police say the man’s name will be released after proper notifications have been made.
The southbound lanes of Quivira Road were closed as of Sunday afternoon just south of 119th Street, near Quivira Park, as police investigated the crash.
Anyone with information about this crash is asked to call the Overland Park Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit at 913-890-1482.
