The Blue Valley Recreation Activity Center will reopen next week after the long holiday weekend, following some facility upgrades that had prompted closure of the center for the past few weeks.
Which facility: The Activity Center is at 6545 W. 151st St., in south Overland Park.
- The center features various spaces for recreation programming — including an aquatic center, dance studio, gymnastics center and outdoor playground.
What’s new: Starting in mid-August, the Activity Center began undergoing interior and exterior upgrades.
- That includes new paint in the hallways, lobby and classrooms for the first time since 2008 — as well as some drywall repairs.
- Floors in the classrooms and hallways were also replaced.
What else: Dawn Harmon, marketing strategist for Blue Valley Recreation, said the tiles of the floors had reached their 25-year life span and the new tiles will hopefully last longer.
- On the outside of the building, concrete and curbs in the parking lot will be replaced — as well as replacement of the asphalt where the center’s ADA-accessible parking is.
When will it reopen? The Activity Center will resume regular hours Tuesday, Sept. 6, after Labor Day.
- The center has been closed since Aug. 15, which is when the work on the facility’s interior and exterior began after the summer season.
- Typical hours for the Activity Center are 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday.
