A Houston-based gas station chain is looking to open a new location in south Overland Park.
Driving the news: The final development plan to convert an existing BP gas station near West 123rd Street and Blue Valley Parkway into a Phillips 66 gained unanimous approval from the Overland Park Planning Commission on its consent agenda last week.
Where exactly? Set to be located at 7701 W. 123rd St., the new gas station will open next to an existing GO Car Wash.
- It will also be just down the road from several large retailers, including Target and Costco Wholesale.
The details: With the final development plan, Phillips 66 is looking to rebrand the station’s existing convenience store and gas pumps.
- The location’s six existing pumps will be replaced with standard Phillips 66 pumps, while any BP signage will also be replaced with the company’s logo.
- An existing canopy, which currently consists of BP’s green and white panels, is expected to be replaced with the Phillips 66 signature red and white colors.
Bigger picture: Phillips 66 is just one of several gas companies working to open new gas stations in Overland Park.
- Iowa-based Casey’s General Store gained approval from the commission to build a new gas station at the southeast corner of Pflumm Road and College Boulevard.
- Casey’s also recently opened a new downtown Overland Park location at 8055 Metcalf Avenue, across from the former UMB Bank site.
- QuikTrip recently demolished a former restaurant building to make space for a 4,900-square-foot convenience store on West 135th Street near Antioch Road, as well.
What’s next for the new Phillips 66?
Before construction can begin, Phillips 66 must gain approval for the final development plan from the Overland Park City Council.
- It will be presented to the council during one of its upcoming regular Monday night meetings in the following months.
- Company officials did not immediately respond to the Post’s inquiries about a tentative opening date for the new gas station.
