Overland Park welcomes soon-to-open Johnson County Rehabilitation Hospital

Johnson County Rehabilitation Hospital will celebrate its official opening this week, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony planned for Wednesday afternoon.

Where exactly: The hospital operates at 11325 College Blvd.

  • The hospital neighbors a number of other medical facilities, including the College Park Family Care Center and Element Imaging.
  • The hospital is also just south of Panera and Freddy’s — in addition to being down the street from the future site of a Casey’s General Store, which gained approval in August.

About the hospital: The new hospital specializes in comprehensive rehabilitation treatment for patients with a range of debilitating injuries and diseases.

  • Some of the areas of treatment offered by hospital staff include stroke rehabilitation, orthopedic injuries, and memory and speech deficits.
  • The 47,750 building includes three stories and 40 hospital beds.

Bigger picture: The hospital is part of a national chain of rehabilitation facilities and is managed by Nobis Rehabilitation Partners.

  • This marks the company’s first hospital in both the Kansas City metro area and in Kansas as a whole.
  • In addition to Kansas, Nobis Rehabilitation Partners manages a number of hospitals across various other states — including Colorado, Oklahoma, Florida and Louisiana.

Wider timeline: Work began on the new hospital building this spring, after the project gained approval from the Overland Park Planning Commission in fall 2020.

  • At the time, WB Development Partners said patients would be transferred from other area hospitals to undergo therapy at the Johnson County Rehabilitation Hospital before they could return home.
  • The site was already zoned for medical facility use, but it needed a special use permit in order for patients to stay there overnight.
