Rise chicken and biscuit joint opening in south Overland Park

The owner of Rise Southern Biscuits & Righteous Chicken‘s Prairie Village franchise is set to open the restaurant’s next Johnson County location in south Overland Park.

When and where: The biscuit and fried chicken chain will open the doors to its second Johnson County restaurant for the first time at 7 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 16, at the Deer Creek Marketplace, 7060 W. 135th St.

  • Once officially up and running, the quick-serve concept will be open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily.

The menu: Based in Durham, N.C., Rise has a menu that features a range of sweet and savory biscuit sandwiches.

  • In addition to fried chicken sandwiches, other options include bacon, egg and cheese,  sausage, ham and fried green tomato sandwiches.
  • Outside of biscuits, Rise offers items like cheddar tots, fried okra, biscuit cinnamon rolls, donuts and coffee.

Key quote: “As a local owner, I am thrilled to introduce Overland Park to the Rise concept,” Prairie Village Rise owner Ryan Cook said. “Our second Kansas location features the scratch-made buttermilk biscuits, crispy Righteous Chicken, biscuit-made sweet treats, and donuts Rise is known for, while showcasing a new emphasis on efficient to-go ordering and contactless pick up via heated food lockers.”

Cook opened Rise’s first Johnson County location in the Shops of Prairie Village in 2019.

  • Founded in 2012, the chain currently has 17 stores across eight states, including California, Georgia, Maryland, Tennessee and Virginia.
