? Taco takeout spot moves into former Sheridan’s in Shawnee

Taco Hangover, a new Mexican restaurant focused on takeout orders, is now open in Shawnee.

The locally-owned restaurant officially opened on Jan. 2 and hopes to expand their operation to drive-thru orders soon.

It’s located in a former Sheridan’s Frozen Custard

  • The address is 13655 W 63rd St., off of Shawnee Mission Parkway, near a Fritz’s and Hy-Vee.
  • Taco Hangover is open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday to Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

COVID-19 derailed original plan for Lenexa

  • Owner Scott Anderson and his wife, Kem, planned to open Taco Hangover at Lenexa City Center — and intended to sign the construction contract in March 2020, just as the pandemic hit.
  • The Andersons then decided to revisit the concept on a whim, Scott said.
  • COVID-19 also changed their original concept’s focus on dine-in to make it more about carryout and drive-thru orders.

Go deeper: Sheridan’s closed this location in late 2021.

Shawnee roots drew the Andersons to the location

  • Scott said he took his children to the former Sheridan’s all the time before it closed in 2021.
  • He loves the visibility of the site, he said, and the existing drive-thru added to the location’s desirability.

Drive-thru option is not yet available

  • So far, the Andersons are just fulfilling takeout orders, but they say customers are responding well to the menu and concept so far.
  • The drive-thru option won’t be open until February at the earliest, as their workers becomes more experienced, he said.
