Leawood’s Tomahawk Park will get a revamp this year.
The city’s Parks and Recreation will design and install a new playground at 3951 W. 119th St.
The department also plans to add other new features to educate residents on the animals they might see at the park.

The new playground will show up later this year
- City parks staff said the final design for the project is still underway.
- Once the design has been finalized, it will need approval from the Leawood Planning Commission and the Leawood City Council.
- Following project approval, the city plans to finish it up by early fall.
The project also includes a new shelter
- The shelter will have the capacity to seat 50 people.
- It will also be available for event rentals.
- The project plans also include a new educational wooded area for park visitors to learn more about local birds and insects.
The city has additional parks and public works projects in the works
- Improvements to Tomahawk Creek Parkway will also kick off this year.
- The stretch of Tomahawk Creek Parkway between College Boulevard and Roe Avenue will grow by 5 feet in both directions.
- Per Leawood’s long-term capital improvement plan, the playground at I-Lan Park off West 126th Avenue will also get replaced in 2026.
