New preschool opens at Overland Park’s Prairiefire

A new early education center has arrived in southern Overland Park.

STEAM Academy Preschool recently opened for enrollment at Overland Park’s Prairiefire shopping center near West 135th Street and Nall Avenue.  

The preschool offers classes for children ages 3 to 5 years old.

The school is inside Prairiefire’s museum

  • You can find the museum and the preschool at 5801 W.135th St.
  • The school neighbors the AMC Theatre at the Overland Park shopping center.

STEAM Academy Preschool offers a “3-pronged approach”

  • The school specializes in kindergarten readiness, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics), and social-emotional development.
  • Students at STEAM Academy can learn about things like animals, changing seasons and healthy living.
  • Each class has two teachers and up to 15 students.

The school follows the academic calendars of local districts

  • The academy’s school year follows the Blue Valley and Shawnee Mission school districts.
  • STEAM Academy is open from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from noon to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
  • The preschool will also offer a summer enrichment camp for children ages 3 to 5 years old.
