The Overland Park Regional Medical Center has expanded its capacity to treat serious cardiovascular illnesses and conditions.
Hospital officials and city leaders on Tuesday unveiled a new cardiovascular ICU and specialty care unit at the hospital located at 10500 Quivira Road.

The unit will offer post-operative and emergency care
- The new unit opened on the second floor of the hospital to include 36 beds — 10 for specialty care and 26 for intensive care.
- Patients at the new unit will receive treatment for cardiac, thoracic and vascular conditions.
- Roughly 40 physicians and nurses will work in the specialty and intensive care units combined.
Hospital staff say the new units will provide more specialized care
- The new split wing will replace the hospital’s previous telemetry unit, which monitored and treated both critical and non-critical heart conditions.
- Cris Pritchard, director of critical care at the new wing, said the change will allow more personalized cardiac care — which often drives more patient satisfaction.
- “I think the potential for what we can be is pretty exciting,” he said. “We’re not just a residential or community hospital. People from around the region come here, and we support them with the innovative procedures that we do.”
This is the hospital’s latest upgrade
- The Overland Park Regional Medical Center has put more than $55 million into cardiovascular improvements at the hospital in the past several years, according to a press release.
- The hospital recently added three new electrophysiology labs, new cardiovascular imaging equipment and physician clinic space, as well as a new orthopedic and spine specialty unit.
- The hospital plans to renovate the women’s services unit later this year.
