Here’s what’s up and coming at Leawood’s Town Center Plaza

Several new businesses are on their way to Leawood’s Town Center Plaza.

In the past few weeks, the southern Leawood shopping center at West 119th Street and Roe Avenue has gained a number of new additions. Other businesses have closed, while others are still on the way.

Here’s what’s new at the bustling shopping center.

Sandbox VR opened earlier this month

  • The virtual reality arcade recently opened on the north side of Town Center Plaza, near GNC.
  • At Sandbox VR, groups of up to six can play in virtual simulations of different sci-fi environments, with characters like zombies and aliens.
  • It’s open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Whole Harvest will open later this spring

  • The restaurant will move into a space on the north end of Town Center Plaza, also near GNC and Sandbox VR.
  • This will mark the first brick-and-mortar restaurant for the Missouri-based company, which primarily operates as a meal delivery service.
  • Whole Harvest’s plant-based menu features items like jackfruit enchiladas, mushroom Bolognese and tofu teriyaki.

Tabu Knits will open in June

  • Tabu Knits Boutique is eyeing a space on the south side of the shopping center, formerly occupied by the Babe Standard boutique.
  • The boutique offers a range of women’s clothing items, from hats and scarves to shirts and dresses.
  • Tabu Knits already operates a location at Overland Park’s Oak Park Mall.

Bravo! Italian Kitchen closed in March

  • The Italian restaurant operated next to women’s clothing store Loft at the shopping center for 20 years.
  • Bravo’s menu included items like pepperoni pizza, shrimp scampi and eggplant parmesean.
  • The Ohio-based chain still operates one more Kansas City area location at the Zona Rosa shopping center in Kansas City, Missouri.

Perry’s Steakhouse no longer plans to open

  • Texas-based steakhouse chain Perry’s Steakhouse previously was working toward an early 2024 opening at the shopping center.
  • The plan gained city approval in 2022 despite resident pushback, but the company reversed its plan in March.
  • Officials from the company said Perry’s Steakhouse still hopes to find a new location in Leawood, despite no longer planning to open at the Town Center Plaza.
