JoCo Notes: Kansas Court of Appeals comes to JCCC

Happy Tuesday, Shawnee Mission!

☀️ Today’s forecast: Sunny and clear. High: 77. Low: 54.

🚨 Happening today

The Kansas Court of Appeals comes to Johnson County Community College on Tuesday.

A three-judge panel of the state’s second highest court will hear oral arguments in three cases during a special traveling session at the college’s Hudson Auditorium starting at 9 a.m.

It’s the first session at JCCC held by the court since before the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Court of Appeals judges always welcome invitations to hear cases at high schools, colleges, and universities across our state,” said Judge David Bruns, who will preside over today’s panel.

The session today “will provide an excellent opportunity for us to visit with students and faculty members about our system of justice,” Bruns said.

Attorneys for each side in three different cases will be able to present their arguments to the judges, who will get to ask questions.

One of the cases involves a Johnson County man who sued Edward D. Jones & Co. after he says he was injured when an office chair he was sitting in broke.

Decisions in each of the cases heard Tuesday will be issued at a later date.
