New Overland Park urgent care clinic plan earns initial OK

A medical office building that was opposed by some of its prospective neighbors cleared an early hurdle this week as the Overland Park Planning Commission unanimously approved its rezoning.

The 3,057-square-foot office, proposed by applicant Barrister Enterprise, Inc., would replace an existing home that had been converted to office use.

The office, plus 19 parking spaces, would be at 7395 W. 151st Street, on the southwest corner of 151st Street and Kay Lynn Road near the 151st and Metcalf Price Chopper Centre.

Two neighbors on Kay Lynn Road spoke against the project during the discussion.

John Pritchett questioned the need for another urgent care facility in the area. He said the increase in traffic would make the area less safe for pickup and trailer drivers, who sometimes struggle to turn onto the street.

He added that the privately owned Kay Lynn Road has no curbs.

David Garcia, another neighbor, noted the new office driveway is near the mailboxes for Kay Lynn Road residents. He also mentioned traffic safety issues at the intersection with 151st Street.

However commissioners said the medical office fits in with the rest of the area.

The Blue Valley School District’s central office lies across 151st Street to the north.

The commission gave its unanimous approval.

The rezoning will come before the city council on June 5.
