Açaí shop Nautical Bowls opening soon in Overland Park

A new açaí bowl shop will soon “drop anchor” in Johnson County.

Nautical Bowls will open later this year, following the beginning of construction next month at its new southern Overland Park space at 135th Street and Quivira Road.

Nautical Bowls will operate at 11648 W. 135th St.

  • The shop is moving into a space on the east end of the Quivira Crossing shopping center.
  • It will neighbor Hakata Sushi & Hibachi and Plato’s Closet at the shopping center.
  • Once it opens, Nautical Bowls will be open every day.

Nautical Bowls serves customizable “super food” bowls

  • Nautical Bowls serves build-your-own açaí bowls starting with bases like coconut, mango or chia pudding.
  • The menu features a range of toppings to add, such as almonds, goji berries, honey oat granola and bananas.
  • Nautical Bowls also serves signature bowls with unique combinations of toppings — such as the “buoy bowl,” which has açaí, vanilla chia pudding, bananas, cacao nibs, pumpkin seeds and almond butter.
  • Dave and Jan Rinker, franchise owners of the new Overland Park location, said each bowl is gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free and without refined sugars.

This will be Nautical Bowls’ first shop in Johnson County

  • The Rinkers said they plan to open a couple more locations in Johnson County, though plans for those have not yet been finalized.
  • Once it opens, Nautical Bowls will offer both dine-in and to-go options, as well as catering and a rewards program.
  • “All of our toppings are either a superfood or an antioxidant,” Jan Rinker said. “We’re just happy to bring in something that’s healthy, fast and casual.”
