Basecamp Fitness opens new south Overland Park studio

An Overland Park gym offering group interval training workouts will soon open its doors.

While Basecamp Fitness opens to the public on Monday, the fitness studio at 135th Street and Antioch Road in southern Overland Park will officially start offering classes Aug. 10.

Basecamp Fitness will operate at 8661 W. 135th St.

  • Basecamp Fitness moved into a space just off Antioch Road, at the Village of Overland Pointe shopping center.
  • The new studio neighbors Firestone Complete Auto Care and Mr. Gyros Greek Food & Pastry.
  • Buckley’s Wine Market previously occupied the space.

Basecamp classes combine several types of exercises

  • Each class has the capacity for 30 people and entails a combination of cardio training and weight training.
  • Classes last 35 minutes, and during each class, people go back and forth between cycling and lifting heavy items like kettle bells and medicine balls.
  • Basecamp Fitness will offer classes every day of the week, focusing on different parts of the body each day.

This marks Basecamp’s first Johnson County studio

  • Christie Cook, owner of the Overland Park franchise of Basecamp Fitness, previously operated a Basecamp Fitness studio in Pasadena, California.
  • She and her husband intend to open two more studios on the Missouri side of the Kansas City metro.
  • Cook described the common theme of each Basecamp Fitness workout as “positive yet motivating.”
  • “We understand that people are injured and in different stages of their workout, so any of these workouts can be modified,” she said. “It’s really about you getting stronger and faster at your own pace.”
