Changes for commuters on U.S. 69 Highway through southern Overland Park are going through a less drastic stage.
Closures along a southern stretch of U.S. 69, generally between 103rd and 151st streets, have reopened this month, some far earlier than expected.
Here’s what has reopened, and what still has yet to come.

The 151st Street ramp reopened last week
- The southbound ramp to 151st Street reopened six days earlier than expected.
- During the roughly month-long closure, it received new paving and striping.
- Project officials say drivers can still expect to see construction crews and equipment as they drive through other work zones.
139th Street closures also ended
- The section of 139th Street under the U.S. 69 bridge has also reopened.
- The street had closed for a partial bridge demolition over the highway’s southbound lanes.
- The demolition included the southbound lanes above the west half of the tunnel.
Noise wall construction will begin soon
- The 69Express project includes the construction of 11 noise walls, the first of which will undergo construction soon.
- In the coming months, project officials say drivers may start to see some of the earliest steps of this process — such as concrete being poured, poles going up and panel installations starting.
- All 11 noise walls will go up by 2026, following a years-long staggered construction process.
