Shawnee woman hospitalized following crash in Leawood

Editor’s Note: This story has been updated to include more information about the victim, which was released by Leawood Police Tuesday morning.

A Shawnee woman is in critical condition after a crash at 119th Street and State Line Road late Monday evening in Leawood.

It happened just after 9:15 p.m. when, according to recorded radio traffic, a driver sped away from a traffic stop.

Radio traffic indicates a gray Ford Focus sped away from the stop.

Almost immediately after informing dispatchers that the vehicle had taken off, the officer reported that the car had been involved in a crash with another vehicle.

A man who was a passenger in the fleeing car reportedly ran from the scene as an officer arrived.

Leawood firefighters removed both driver’s side doors and a support pillar from the side of the car to safely remove the trapped driver.
