Plans for Sickies in empty north Overland Park Red Robin shape up

Sickies Garage Burgers & Brews plans to take over the former Red Robin spot at 95th Street and Metcalf Avenue.

This will be the first Kansas City metro area location of the North Dakota-based burger joint. The restaurant chain also has plans to open another location in Wichita next year.

The Red Robin location at 7111 W. 95th St. closed its doors in spring 2021 after more than 15 years of service in north Overland Park. The space was used as a restaurant long before that, at one point home to Houston’s.

Sickies serves burgers, sandwiches and beers

  • Sickies serves dozens of “supercharged” burgers and sandwiches, including the Glazed Doughnut Burger, the County Fair Burger and the Jalapeño Peanut Butter Burger.
  • The menu also features chicken wings, a collection of appetizers and “slick” sandwiches.
  • Homestyle dinners, like meatloaf, chicken fried chicken or the Kickin’ Bourbon Bacon Chicken and Mac Waffle.
  • Additionally, Sickies has mashed potato and mac & cheese bowls piled high with toppings, like BBQ pork and poutine.
  • Patrons can also order malts, old fashioned sodas, spiked shakes and flavored lemonades.
  • Sickies’ adult diners can also order from roughly 50 craft, domestic and import beers on tap.
Upgrades to the future Sickies Garage in Overland Park will include a new entryway feature, a small addition to serve as a keg room and other building improvements.

Sickies will add keg room to Overland Park restaurant space

  • On Monday, the Overland Park Planning Commission approved the final development plan for the site, which allows some of the planned upgrades to go forward.
  • According to city documents, the plan is to update the 8,000-square-foot building with some external improvements.
  • The building will also get a small addition to serve as a Sickies keg room on the south side and the main entryway feature will be replaced.
  • When completed the building will look more like a “service station or mechanics’ garage,” the staff report says.
