The Blue Valley School District is feeling the loss this week of a beloved middle school teacher who was recently killed after being hit by a car.
Lakewood Middle teacher Taylor Eddings, 28, died from injuries she sustained from the crash, which happened over the weekend.

Eddings taught seventh grade math at Lakewood
- In addition to teaching math, Eddings also coached track at Lakewood Middle.
- In a letter to Lakewood Middle families, Principal Lisa Stolper called Eddings an “integral part of our school community.”
- “Her loss has left us all broken hearted,” she said. “Ms. Eddings’ passing is an unimaginable loss for our community.
Eddings was killed while walking in Olathe
- The incident occurred at roughly 8:20 p.m. Friday in the area of East Kansas City Road and North Central Street near a couple of shopping centers in Olathe, according to a release from the Olathe Police Department.
- Eddings was crossing the street when she was hit by a passing car.
- From there, she was transported to a local hospital, where she died later that night.
- Olathe Police said Tuesday that the crash remains under investigation.
The district provided students and teachers with support
- Lakewood Middle staff shared the news with students on Monday, but encouraged parents via email over the weekend to have that conversation with their children as well before the start of the week.
- The school provided grief counselors as well, who will remain at the school through the week.
- Students in sixth through eighth grades are also working on cards for Eddings’s family.
