Panda Express eyes 2024 opening for new south Overland Park restaurant

Popular California-based Chinese fast food restaurant Panda Express expects to open a new south Overland Park location early next year.

Panda Express corporate told the Post the restaurant chain is targeting an April 9, 2024 opening date. It will have a drive-thru and places to dine in.

Panda Express coming to booming south Overland Park

Overland Park approved plans earlier this year

  • The Overland Park Planning Commission approved the final development plan for the project in early February.
  • Overland Park issued the project’s building permits earlier this month.
  • Previously, the site was identified as a future McDonald’s location, but developers never built the restaurant, according to city documents.

This is Overland Park’s fourth Panda Express

  • There’s an existing Panda Express in south Overland Park in the Deer Creek Shoppes at 7352 W. 135th St.
  • Panda Express also has a restaurant near 91st Street and Metcalf and another one in the Oak Park Mall food court.
  • There’s also a location in Lenexa in the Oak Park Commons shopping center at 95th Street and Quivira Road.

Panda Express serves American-style Chinese food

  • Panda Express patrons can order a meal with one entree or upgrade to an option with two or three entree portions. Each meal is served with the choice of steamed rice, fried rice or chow mein.
  • Panda Express also serves appetizers and desserts at some locations.
  • Additionally, there are some a la carte and family style options on the menu, as well as a Panda Cub menu for younger customers.
