New south Overland Park Nordstrom Rack to open next week

Discount retailer Nordstrom Rack is set to open its first south Overland Park store next week near 119th Street and Metcalf Avenue.

The store will open at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 12., in the Overland Crossing shopping center.

Overland Park store is about 25,000 square feet

  • Nordstrom Rack takes up some of the space formerly occupied by Burlington, whose footprint has shrunk.
  • It will sell “apparel, accessories and shoes for the whole family” discounted up to 70% off, Nordstrom’s Public Relations Coordinator Manuela Uscher said in an email. It also sells beauty products.
  • Patrons can find many of the same brands sold at the luxury department store Nordstrom at Nordstrom Racks, including Adidas, New Balance and Madewell.
  • “We deliver the fashion customers are used to experiencing at Nordstrom stores, while providing access to many of the same brands at a savings,” Uscher said.

Nordstrom Rack has another Johnson County location

  • This is the second Nordstrom Rack location in Johnson County, with the other at 95th and Quivira Road in Lenexa in the Orchard Corners shopping center.
  • Nordstrom, the luxury department store, is one of the anchor tenants at Oak Park Mall in Overland Park, as well.
  • This new Overland Park Nordstrom Rack location is just one of many expected to open this year nationwide. In all, the company plans 20 new stores across the U.S. in 2023, Uscher said.

There are more changes coming to Overland Crossing

  • Texas-based chain 151 Coffee intends to open a new drive-thru spot in the shopping center soon. It will share the building with an existing Mattress Firm, which has also shrunk its footprint.
  • A new Whole Foods location, the timeline of which has been pushed back, is now set to open next month.
  • In all, the shopping center expects to have eight new tenants by 2024.
