Tea Rex Boba in downtown Mission has permanently closed

A local bubble tea shop in downtown Mission is closed for good.

Located at 5832 Johnson Drive, Tea Rex Boba is permanently closed, according to a sign on the door.

Tea Rex Boba closed in August for renovations

  • The bubble tea shop announced on Facebook on Aug. 6 that it was closing down for renovations and a complete “revamp.”
  • The Facebook post prompted customers to stop by that week for $5 for all boba sizes “while supplies last.”
  • Google shows Tea Rex Boba is “temporarily closed.”
  • Now, a sign on the front door declares “Store Tea Rex close(d) for good!”
  • Tea Rex Boba could not be reached for comment for this story.

The bubble tea shop opened in 2021

  • Owner Clay Griggs opened Tea Rex Boba in September 2021.
  • He told the Post in November 2021 that he always knew he wanted to own a business, like a restaurant or coffee shop.
  • Griggs told the Post he saw a lack of bubble tea options in downtown Mission, which is when he came up with the idea for Tea Rex Boba.
  • The bubble tea shop was dinosaur-themed, with drink names like “mangolodon,” a mango and passion fruit mix with mango and passion fruit popping boba.
