McLain’s Market in south OP is at 15102 Travis St.

  • The restaurant occupies a 3,200-square-foot building off 151st Street and Metcalf Avenue.
  • The restaurant is immediately next to the former Aspens Restaurant and Lounge space, which closed earlier this fall and around the corner from the Blue Valley School District’s main administrative offices.
  • McLain’s Market operates from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sunday and Monday, and from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.

McLain’s Market doubles as a restaurant and bakery

  • McLain’s Market serves as a “sister concept” to McLain’s Bakery — which originally opened in 1945 and still operates in Kansas City, Missouri’s Waldo neighborhood.
  • The south Overland Park restaurant’s lunch menu offers an array of sandwiches, soups and salads.
  • McLain’s Market also serves an extensive range of baked goods and breakfast items like quiche and breakfast burritos, as well as tea and coffee drinks.
  • “We’ve had such a warm welcome,” said owner Mollie Lothman. “A lot of people have said, “I go McLain’s like once a week or maybe once a month because I’m driving to a friend’s house up north or in that direction, but now you’re right around the corner from me so I’ll be here more often.'”

This is McLain’s Market’s second Overland Park location

  • The first McLain’s Market in Overland Park opened in 2016, in a former Shell gas station at 10695 Roe Ave.
  • Since then, that location has steadily grown in popularity, which Lothman said led to a demand for a second Overland Park spot.
  • “We were looking to expand, and out south just made a lot of sense for us,” Lothman said. “We’ll hopefully be able to provide opportunities for people to get in here who have have a hard time getting into (the Roe Avenue) location or finding a parking spot at that location.”
  • McLain’s Market also has another Johnson County location in downtown Shawnee
