Several drivers, walkers and bikers in Overland Park can expect some changes in their commutes or walks this month.
Continued work on U.S. Highway 69 throughout the winter will result in several lane, ramp and trail closures in Overland Park.
Here’s what to expect this month.
Several closures will take place this week
- From 5 p.m. to 6 a.m. every night until Sunday, 143rd Street under U.S. Highway 69 will close in both directions for bridge construction.
- The 103rd Street ramp onto southbound U.S. 69 will also close from 11 a.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. Friday for construction material delivery.
- From 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday night, the westbound I-435 ramp at U.S. 69 and the northbound U.S. 69 ramp onto I-435 will close for bridge work — as well as the eastbound I-435 left lane.
- The southbound U.S. 69 ramp onto College Boulevard will close overnight too on Thursday and Friday night.
Other closures will last until later this month
From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays from Dec. 11 through Dec. 22, the following areas will close:
- Alternating southbound lanes on U.S. 69 from135th Street to 143rd Street for truck access
- Northbound U.S. 69 left lane at Blue Valley Parkway for bridge construction
- Southbound U.S. 69 ramp’s left turn lane onto College Boulevard for truck access
- Southbound U.S. 69 right lane from 103rd Street to I-435 for truck access
- Southbound U.S. 69 right lane from 119th Street to Antioch Road for paving operations
- Both directions of 143rd Street (in alternating lanes) from Antioch Road to Metcalf Avenue for bridge construction
Walking trails will close for construction
- Over the next several months, some walking trails and bike paths in Overland Park will close for bridge construction near Tomahawk Creek and Indian Creek.
- The trails off U.S. 69 and 127th Street and off U.S 69 and 135th Street (between Antioch Road and Metcalf Avenue) are closed through late summer 2024.
- The trail where 143rd Street meets U.S. 69 is closed until October 2024.
