Local entrepreneur and fashion enthusiast opens new Mission boutique

Share this story:

Fiorella Schlossmacher is a lifelong fashion and accessory connoisseur, often getting compliments and questions about where she’d gotten clothing items and jewelry throughout the years.

So when the opportunity arose during the COVID-19 pandemic to start an online boutique (which she called Fiorella’s Closet at the time), Schlossmacher said it felt like a natural step. After all, she said, people deserved to gain their sense of style back after months of staying at home.

Four years later, the boutique is entering a new era with its first ever stand-alone storefront. Her new shop, Fiorella’s Boutique, will officially open its doors in downtown Mission on Wednesday — following a soft launch for friends and family over the weekend.

Fiorella’s Boutique operates at 5832 Johnson Drive

  • The store moved into a space in downtown Mission, near Sushi Karma.
  • Tea Rex Boba previously occupied the space, before it shuttered last fall.
  • For its first month in March, Schlossmacher said the boutique will operate from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Fiorella’s Boutique offers some “fun in your closet”

The boutique’s inventory entails a wide variety of women’s clothing and accessories, from blouses and blazers to handbags and bracelets.

Schlossmacher, as she puts it, “doesn’t like plain” — so the store features clothing of all kinds of bright colors and patterns. Fiorella’s Boutique also carries both regular and plus sizes.

One of Schlossmacher’s goals with her store, she said, is to help customers find items to feel confident in that they might not normally think they can pull off.

“I try to find things that add fun to your closet,” Schlossmacher said. “I really think that how you look really determines how you feel that day. It’s more than just selling clothes — to me, it’s always been about that connection.”

Schlossmacher said she’s excited for this new chapter

Originally from Lima, Peru, Schlossmacher relocated to the United States 20 years ago. She and her husband, former Mission City Councilmember Nick Schlossmacher, spent eight years in Mission before moving to Basehor.

The boutique’s original name, Fiorella’s Closet, came from the place where it started — out of Schlossmacher’s closet at their house in Mission. As such, Schlossmacher said Mission felt like the perfect start for her boutique’s new chapter.

“It just felt natural — almost like going back home,” she said. “It’s just kind of a full-circle moment to be able to find the perfect spot right there, literally a block and a half from where everything started.”

Since launching online, the boutique gained popularity and expanded into an in-person shopping experience at multiple “collective boutiques” like the Painted Tree in Overland Park. But entering this new chapter of having a stand-alone storefront, Schlossmacher said, feels like an exciting step.

“You never know how things are going to go,” Schlossmacher said. “But I feel like the steps that I’ve taken over the last couple years have helped me get to this place and be confident that people are going to continue to support what I’m doing.”
