What’s going into this long-vacant Shawnee gym space? A new gym

Share this story:

A former gym in Shawnee will soon once again be filled with people getting in a workout.

Crunch Fitness is aiming for a May opening for its first Johnson County gym, in a former Genesis Health Club space.

Crunch Fitness will operate at 11311 Shawnee Mission Parkway

  • The gym will occupy a 40,000-square-foot space off West 64th Terrace and Flint Street.
  • Genesis Health Club left the space in 2018, and before its occupancy, a 24 Hour Fitness gym occupied the space.
  • Crunch Fitness will neighbor City Thrift and Dutch Bros coffee shop off Shawnee Mission Parkway.

Crunch Fitness offers a ‘no judgment’ workout environment

  • Crunch Fitness members get access to strength and cardio equipment like weights, treadmills, and elliptical machines — as a sauna, a yoga studio and a tanning salon.
  • Members can work out on their own or take group fitness classes.
  • Memberships come in tiers, starting at $9.99 for the “base” plan and $29.99 for the “peak results” plan.

This marks the first Crunch Fitness in JoCo

  • It’s also the first Crunch Fitness gym in the Kansas City metro area.
  • The New York-based gym chain was founded in 1989 and operates more than 400 gyms across the world.
  • The closest Crunch Fitness gym operates in Lawrence, with another one in Topeka.
