Paw-triotic Pet Parade

Lenexa Public Market
This festive, pet-friendly celebration features strutting mutts in costume, pop-up vendors selling pet-related products and treats for dogs and humans alike. The parade begins at 11 a.m. Dress up your pet and join in the fun.
Lenexa Freedom Run

Start Independence Day with a bang! Lenexa’s annual Freedom Run attracts thousands each year. Competition abounds for those wanting to take their summer conditioning to the line on our USATF-certified 5K and 10K courses. There’s also room for those who just want to kick off the holiday doing something positive as a family, group or in remembrance of a loved one. Strollers welcome. Register in advance to save and get a patriotic tee to wear the rest of the day.
Community Days Parade

Put on your red, white and blue and find a place along the parade route to enjoy this annual hometown tradition.
Outdoor pools
Cool off in one of our three outdoor pools on Independence Day – Sar-Ko-Par Aquatic Center, Ad Astra Pool and Flat Rock Creek Pool – until 6 p.m. We’ll close early for backyard parties but are open for afternoon fun in the sun.
Be safe
Speaking of backyard parties, don’t forget safety. As you fire up the grill and gather with neighbors and friends, keep these safety tips in mind:
- Fireworks are illegal in Lenexa. Sparklers, snakes, smoke bombs and paper caps with less than .25 grain of explosive are not considered fireworks and are legal.
- Keep grills 10-feet away from siding, deck rails and eaves.
- Open gas grills before lighting them to avoid gas buildup that could cause a flash fire when lit.
- Keep a fire extinguisher nearby.
- Let coals cool completely before disposing them in a metal can.
