A fast-casual restaurant known for its roast beef sandwiches no longer has a local presence.

Missouri-based chain Lion’s Choice shuttered both of its Johnson County locations at the end of June.

Lion’s Choice had locations in Overland Park and Olathe

  • The Olathe location was at 14189 W. 135th St., near Whataburger and Dutch Bros.
  • The Overland Park location operated at 10313 Metcalf Ave, at the site of a former Winstead’s diner.
  • Both locations were open for roughly five years.

Lion’s Choice served “killer beef sandwiches”

  • The quick-serve restaurant is primarily known for its roast beef sandwiches but also serves other options, like roasted turkey and hickory smoked ham sandwiches.
  • Lion’s Choice also offers soups, salads and sides like French fries and baked potatoes.
  • The company was founded in 1967, in Ballwin, Missouri.

These were the company’s only Kansas locations

  • Now, the closest Lion’s Choice to Johnson County is in Liberty, Missouri.
  • The company also still has several locations in St. Louis and the surrounding metro area.
  • Via a news release, Lion’s Choice CEO Fred Burmer said the company hopes to eventually make another attempt at expanding into Kansas down the line.
  • “Our future approach to new market development will involve a more gradual introduction, allowing us to better align our pace with market demand,” he said. “Continuing to operate one store will help us evaluate a new Kansas City market strategy, better establish the brand, and plan for future growth here and in other markets.”
