Whataburger, the Texas-based fast-food chain that has exploded in popularity in the Kansas City metro in recent years with the enthusiastic backing of Patrick Mahomes, is now expanding even more in Johnson County.
KMO Burger, a franchise group that includes the Chiefs quarterback, plans to bring the lateste Whataburger to Gardner within the next year.
This is Gardner’s first Whataburger
- The restaurant will occupy the northeastern corner of 188th Street and Gardner Road.
- There, it will operate near a QuikTrip and a Groundhouse Coffee & Bakery.
- KMO Burger plans to open this new Whataburger location in 2025, according to its website.
Whataburger serves burgers 24/7
- The fast-casual restaurant is primarily known for its burgers — from traditional cheeseburgers to “sweet and spicy” bacon burgers.
- Whataburger also serves other items like chicken sandwiches, salads and French fries, as well as breakfast items like honey butter chicken and breakfast burgers.
- Most Whataburger locations typically operate 24 hours a day.
This will be Johnson County’s sixth Whataburger
- KMO Burger opened the first Whataburger in Overland Park in March 2022.
- Since then, the Mahomes-backed franchise group has opened three more in Overland Park, and a fourth in Olathe.
- Across the state line, there are a dozen more in the metro, including four in Kansas City, Missouri, and two in Lee’s Summit.
