Less than a month after AdventHealth Sports Park’s grand opening, plans for the burgeoning development’s next phase of growth are already on the horizon.

At its Monday meeting, the Overland Park Planning Commission unanimously approved a preliminary development plan and special use permit for the sports complex’s next phase of development.

The sports complex at 16201 Shawnee Drive anchors the growing Bluhawk development off 159th Street and U.S. Highway 69 in southern Overland Park by Kansas City-based Price Brothers.

The new plans include pickleball, soccer and more

  • The newest plans include an 18-hole miniature golf course, 12 new pickleball courts (four outdoors, eight indoors), and yard games like bocce and shuffleboard — as well as a two-story bar and restaurant.
  • The plan and special use permit request will go before the Overland Park City Council for its next approval on Dec. 2.
  • Following city approvals, construction on the new features is expected to begin next summer.

The sports arena opened in October

  • The sports complex, dubbed AdventHealth Sports Park, celebrated its grand opening on Oct. 26.
  • The first phase of development included features like basketball courts, an ice rink, bowling lanes, an arcade and entertainment lounge and multiple eateries.
  • The existing sports complex entails 260,000 square feet of sports and entertainment, and the new features will bring its total size to more than 430,000 square feet, according to city documents.

Bluhawk is undergoing lots of growth

  • In addition to the sports complex, the sprawling development just off US-69 is growing in terms of retail, as well.
  • Its second phase of retail, dubbed The Boundary, will neighbor the sports park and bring 200,000 square feet of shops and restaurants.
  • Developers previously expected to wrap up on that development by the spring of 2026.
