2025 Lenexa city council election primer
There are three contested races for Lenexa City Council seats this year, as well as a fourth uncontested race.
You can read the candidates’ responses to our questionnaire below and see video of the forum the Post held earlier this fall.
Candidates running unopposed were not asked to respond to the questionnaire or participate in the forum.
Ward 1
In Ward 1, current Councilmember John Michael Handley — appointed to the seat in January to fill a vacancy created by the death of Joe Karlin — faces a challenge from Joe Shull.
Handley and Shull earned more votes over Trevor Keegan during an August primary, so the two face off again in the November general election.
