Dave’s Hot Chicken, celebrity-backed chain, opening soon in Olathe

Spicy chicken chain Dave’s Hot Chicken, which began as a Hollywood pop-up concept and has since earned a roster of celebrity backers, is getting close to its latest Johnson County opening.

The California-based company plans to celebrate the grand opening of its new Olathe franchise on Feb. 20.

It will be the restaurant’s second Johnson County location.

Dave’s Hot Chicken is coming to 15139 W. 119th St.

  • The restaurant moved into and remodeled a space at the Olathe Station shopping center, just off 119th Street and Black Bob Road.
  • Peter Piper Pizzeria, a sister concept to Chuck E. Cheese, occupied that space for roughly a year before closing at the end of 2023.
  • The space is also near Nothing Bundt Cakes and sandwich chain Planet Sub.

What does Dave’s serve?

  • The restaurant’s chicken comes in the form of bites, tenders and chicken slider sandwiches — ranging from “no spice” to “reaper” level of heat.
  • The menu also features “not chicken” cauliflower bites and sandwiches, as well as side items like loaded fries, mac & cheese and kale slaw.
  • Dave’s Hot Chicken also serves “top loaded” milkshakes with toppings like Oreos, M&Ms and Cinnamon Toast Crunch pieces.

  • Dave’s Hot Chicken has one other Johnson County location at 9097 Metcalf Ave. in Overland Park.
  • That location opened in summer 2023, and the company also has one location in Kansas City, Missouri.
  • The company started out in Los Angeles eight years ago and has since opened several locations across the country.
  • Dave’s Hot Chicken is also known for drumming up investments from celebrities and entertainers, including actor Samuel L. Jackson, singer Usher and former NFL star and TV host Michael Strahan.
