Hy-Vee (yes, the grocery store chain) opening new Overland Park health clinic

Share this story:

A company offering “alternative healthcare solutions” for its members plans to open its first Johnson County clinic soon.

And it comes with a name many Johnson County residents will recognize.

Hy-Vee Health Exemplar Care, a network of health clinics co-owned by the Iowa-based grocery chain, has a new southern Overland Park clinic in the works, its first in the Kansas City region.

The clinic is coming to 6615 W. 135th St.

  • Hy-Vee Health Exemplar Care is moving into a space at the Corbin Park shopping center, just off 135th Street and Lamar Avenue.
  • There, the clinic will operate near optician SVS Vision and StretchLab.
  • An AT&T store previously occupied the space.

Hy-Vee Exemplar Care is separate from in-store pharmacies

  • With Hy-Vee Exemplar Care, the company offers direct primary and urgent care for both patients with employer-based plans, as well as individual and family memberships to Exemplar Care itself.
  • Currently, the network has about a dozen direct and urgent care clinics, most operating in Iowa.
  • Hy-Vee, known mostly for its grocery stores, merged with Iowa-based Exemplar Care last year.
  • Memberships to Exemplar Care come with unlimited primary care visits and routine lab testing at Exemplar Care clinics and cost $89 per month for a single adult and $216 per month for a family of four or more.
  • Patients can come in for in-person appointments or visit with their providers via telehealth appointments.
  • The Exemplar Care clinics offer a wider range of primary and urgent care services than the smaller retail in-store clinics and pharmacies found in Hy-Vee grocery stores.

This marks Exemplar Care’s first JoCo location

  • The new Overland Park clinic also serves as the first in the wider Kansas City metro area.
  • However, the company also intends to open a new clinic in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, soon.
  • Hy-Vee Health Exemplar Care is headquartered in Des Moines, Iowa, and most of the company’s clinics are in that state.
