This spring, the Admissions Department at Johnson County Community College (JCCC) will host a variety of events for prospective college students.
College 101
Starting in February, JCCC’s Financial Aid Office, Career Development and Transfer Services Center, Workforce Development and Continuing Education branch, and other departments will collaborate on a free event series to help the JCCC community prepare for college next fall – no matter where they plan to go.
College 101 events will help to answer common questions and ease the anxieties students often have while navigating the college entry process. Prospective college students, their families, and interested community members can register for any – or all – of the College 101 sessions.
February 13 – Destination Education: How to Choose Your Major/FAFSA Completion Night – 4:30-7:30 p.m.
Students can learn how their interests, personality, and values can guide their major selection and career decision-making process with help from the experts in JCCC’s Career Development and Transfer Services Center. Experts from the JCCC Financial Aid Office will also be available to help students complete their FAFSA submission and to answer questions about financial aid and the college financing process.

March 5 – Nontraditional Student Night/FAFSA Completion Night – 5-7 p.m.
Considering going back to school? Join JCCC Admissions, Financial Aid, and Workforce Development and Continuing Education for a special evening dedicated to nontraditional students. Learn about JCCC’s evening and online class options, personalized support services, and financial aid and scholarship opportunities for student parents, career changers, and more. Experts from the JCCC Financial Aid Office will also be available to help students complete their FAFSA submission and to answer questions about financial aid and the college financing process.

April 10 – Planning for College in High School – 5-7 p.m.
This session will cover essential topics, including earning college credits while in high school, selecting the right high school classes, college financial planning, understanding dual credit versus on-campus course offerings, and enhancing college readiness.

May 7 – Beginning the College Search Process – 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
This session will cover key topics for students beginning their college search, including demystifying the application process, financial aid and scholarships, maximizing campus visits, and more. Whether a student is just starting or looking to solidify their plans, this event will provide valuable insights and resources to help them make informed decisions about their future.

Experience JCCC at an upcoming visit day
JCCC also hosts events throughout the year for prospective JCCC and college students to visit campus, explore majors and career paths, and prepare for college life. Upcoming visit days this spring include:
February 10, March 10, April 14, May 12 – The Hospitality Management Experience – 9-11:30 a.m.
This visit day is for prospective students interested in studying Hospitality Management and Culinary Arts. Wylie Hospitality and Culinary Academy Director Jason Lafferty will discuss available academic programs, career path opportunities, and what to expect as a student in these programs. Attendees will also have the chance to explore campus with a current JCCC student as their guide and learn about admission, scholarships and financial aid, and student life from the JCCC Admissions team.

February 17 – Junior/Senior Day – 8 a.m.- noon (optional campus tour from noon- 1 p.m.)
This visit day is for high school juniors or seniors ready to take the next step toward their future and explore all the opportunities awaiting them at JCCC! Activities include:
- Student Panel: Hear from current students about campus life and their experiences transitioning from high school to college.
- Sample College Classes: Find out what it’s like to learn from our expert faculty during fun and engaging mini classes across different subjects.
- How to Pay for College: Learn about financial aid and other options to make college affordable, including scholarships and work-study opportunities.
- Breakout Sessions: Explore topics like choosing a major, student life, and transfer pathways.

March 25 – Homeschool Day – 9-11:30 a.m.
This special event is exclusively for homeschool students and their families to explore all JCCC has to offer. Attendees will hear from a panel of current JCCC students who were homeschooled and from their parents. They will share tips to help other students successfully transition to attending JCCC. Attendees will tour JCCC’s campus with a current student and learn important information about admission, academics, student life, and scholarships/financial aid from the JCCC Admissions team.

April 2 – Noche de Colegio – 6-8 p.m.
Noche de Colegio connects Hispanic prospective students and their families with the opportunities available at JCCC. This special night features:
- A student resource and academic fair to learn about JCCC programs, services, and student organizations
- A panel of current Hispanic students who will share their experiences and insights
- Information about financial aid and scholarships
- And an opportunity to connect with the International and Immigrant Student Services department to find support tailored to their needs
