A fast-casual chain specializing in roast beef has packed up and left Overland Park.
Sandwich chain Beef-a-Roo recently closed its southern Overland Park location, its only one in Johnson County.
Beef-a-Roo was in Overland Park for two years
- The restaurant opened its doors at 9500 W. 135th St. in June 2023.
- Before Beef-a-Roo opened, the space was occupied by fast-casual chicken chain Zaxby’s.
- Zaxby’s closed in December 2021, after operating at the space for roughly five years.

Beef-a-Roo served fast-casual fare
- The Illinois-based chain is primarily known for its roast beef sandwiches.
- However, Beef-a-Roo also serves other sandwiches like burgers, grilled cheese sandwiches and turkey bacon clubs.
- The restaurant also offers side items like “liquid gold” cheese fries, cheese curds and onion rings.
Beef-a-Roo only had one Kansas City area location
- The chain’s Overland Park location was the only one in Johnson County and the wider Kansas City metro.
- Officials with the Illinois-based chain did not immediately respond to Post inquiries about the closure.
- “While we have enjoyed our time in your beautiful city, we’ve had to make the difficult decision to close this location,” read a sign on the restaurant’s door on Monday. “Hope to see you again soon!”
