2 suspects in custody after suspected road rage shooting in Prairie Village

Updated, Wednesday, 7:30 a.m.

Prairie Village Police now say a shooting that was initially believed to be part of an attempted carjacking Tuesday night was the result of road rage.

In an updated press release Tuesday morning, Prairie Village Police Sgt. Josh Putthoff said, “After further investigation, it has been determined this shooting was attributed to a road rage incident.”

Investigators now “do not believe this was an attempted carjacking,” Putthoff said, adding authorities believe there is no danger to the public.

In a press release late Tuesday night, Prairie Village Police initially classified the incident as an attempted armed carjacking.

The original release said two individuals on a motorcycle pulled up next to a vehicle stopped at a red light near 75th Street and State Line Road and opened the driver’s door.

The driver was able to pull the door shut and speed away, the release said. One suspect pulled a gun and fired at the driver as they drove west on 75th Street.

Two suspects, aged 15 and 19, were later taken into custody in Kansas City, Missouri.
