Jars by Fabio, sweet shop concept from ‘Top Chef’ contestant, closes in Overland Park

Share this story:

An “innovative” sweets company that sells desserts in jars has left Johnson County after less than a year.

Jars by Fabio Viviani closed its Overland Park shop on Friday, according to signage in the shop’s windows.

Jars was at 4937 W. 119th St.

  • The shop occupied a space at the Hawthorne Plaza shopping center, just off 119th Street and Roe Avenue (where Overland Park meets Leawood).
  • Before Jars moved into the space, it was previously occupied by ice cream shop Bingbox.
  • Jars was also wedged between fellow sweets shop André’s Confiserie Suisse and PAINT Nail bar at the shopping center.

The shop was known for “artfully crafted” desserts in jars

  • Jars by Fabio Viviani offers jarred desserts in various flavors, from tres leches cake and cookies and cream to red velvet cheesecake and banana cream pie.
  • Besides its jarred items, the brand also sells soft serve ice cream in flavors like French vanilla cake and fruity pebbles.
  • Jars also serves fruity “refresher” beverages in flavors like blue raspberry, strawberry kiwi and mango passion fruit.

This was the only Jars location in Johnson County

  • The Overland Park shop also served as the only presence in the wider Kansas City metro area for the dessert brand.
  • The brand was founded by former “Top Chef” contestant Fabio Viviani, who owns several culinary concepts and has his own show, “Fabio’s Kitchen.”
  • Viviani was featured on the fifth and eighth seasons of “Top Chef,” where he earned a “Fan Favorite” title.
