Chain specializing in ‘scratch-made’ chicken salad coming to Overland Park

Fast-casual chain Chicken Salad Chick has officially landed its first Johnson County location.

The company, which specializes in “scratch-made” chicken salad, plans to open a new location in Overland Park.

After its Overland Park opening this summer, more Johnson County locations will follow, said local franchisee Jo Anne Williams.

Chicken Salad Chick is coming to 9222 Metcalf Ave.

  • The restaurant is taking over a space just off 91st Street and Metcalf Avenue, at the Regency Park shopping center — near Connie’s Cookies and Natural Grocers.
  • La Fuente Mexican Street Food occupied that space for roughly five years before closing its doors at the end of February.
  • Once it opens, Chicken Salad Chick’s hours will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Chicken Salad Chick serves “Southern-style” fast-casual fare

  • Chicken Salad Chick’s chicken salad comes in a variety of flavors, from the “Fancy Nancy” (with apples, grapes and pecans) to “Lauryn’s lemon basil” (with chopped pecans, lemon and fresh basil).
  • The restaurant’s chicken salad comes either in a scoop atop lettuce or on a sandwich.
  • In addition to chicken salad, the restaurant also offers other items like pimento cheese BLTs, turkey clubs, salads, and side items like loaded potato soup, macaroni and cheese, and fruit cups.

This marks Chicken Salad Chick’s debut in Johnson County

Chicken Salad Chick got its start in Alabama in 2008 and now has hundreds of locations across the country.

Jo Anne Williams and Cindy Sulzman co-own Chicks Kan LLC, the franchise ownership group behind the Overland Park location. Williams’ husband, Kirk Williams, will serve as their operating partner.

Rachel West, Andy Epstein & Matt Vaupell with AREA Real Estate Advisors represented the landlord in the transaction.

The franchise group hopes to eventually have three locations in total in Johnson County — though details are not nailed down for the other two, Williams said. They also plan to open a location further west, in Lawrence.

Another Chicken Salad Chick location recently opened in Lee’s Summit, Missouri — though that one is under different franchise ownership.

“A lot of people that are here from the South or have vacationed in the South, they know the brand,” Williams said. “It has kind of a cult following.”
