A new entertainment experience for escape enthusiasts has officially arrived in Johnson County.

Escapology, a venue with themed escape rooms, opened its doors in Leawood earlier this month at Town Center Plaza.

Escapology opened at 5029 W. 117th St.

  • The facility moved into a space on the north side of the Town Center Plaza shopping center, just off 119th Street and Roe Avenue.
  • The space was most recently occupied by the Art of Sports sports memorabilia shop, before it relocated to a new permanent space at the shopping center.
  • Escapology is open from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Thursday, 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday.

Escapology offers an “immersive” escape experience

  • Escapology’s Leawood facility has eight total escape rooms (seven of which are currently open, while an eighth finishes up renovations).
  • Each escape room is centered around a different theme, like superheroes, lost cities, haunted mansions and secret science labs.
  • The different escape rooms have a range of three difficulty tiers, so players can choose a challenge based on their level of experience.
  • Players get 60 minutes in their chosen escape room, where they try to find hidden clues that will help them “escape” (though doors remain unlocked for safety reasons).

This marks the first Escapology in Johnson County

  • The new Town Center Plaza location is the first in the wider Kansas City metro for the Orlando, Florida-based company.
  • Escapology has roughly 70 locations across the country.
  • The company also has several international locations in places like Montreal, Canada and Santiago, Chile.
