Texas-based Torchy’s Tacos closing its doors in Overland Park

The Texas-based taco restaurant will close its doors at the Corbin Park shopping center next week.

After roughly four years, a taco restaurant will soon leave Overland Park.

Texas-based Torchy’s Tacos will close its doors in Overland Park next week. An employee at the restaurant confirmed its last day will be Tuesday.

Torchy’s Tacos was at 6815 W. 135th St.

  • The restaurant occupied a space at the Corbin Park shopping center, just off 135th Street and Metcalf Avenue.
  • There, the restaurant operated near the Corner Bakery Cafe and Italian eatery Maggiano’s Little Italy.
  • Before Torchy’s took over its Overland Park space, the space was previously occupied by Old Chicago Pizza & Taproom — which closed sometime in 2020.

Torchy’s opened in Overland Park in 2021

  • Torchy’s celebrated its opening in Overland Park in June 2021.
  • Earlier that same year, the Texas-based chain also opened a location in Olathe.
  • The fast-casual restaurant is known for its wide range of tacos, as well as other items like burritos, salads and cocktails.
  • In an emailed statement, a spokesperson with Torchy’s said the closure comes as part of the company’s effort to “sharpen its focus on high-performing markets.”
  • “Torchy’s is evolving its approach and doubling down on strategic market expansion,” the company said via the statement. “Part of that included making the difficult decision to close a small number of locations that no longer align with its long-term vision.”

Torchy’s still has one Johnson County location left

  • The Texas-based company still has a location at 11919 S. Strang Line Road in Olathe.
  • That location will remain open, according to staff at the Overland Park location.
  • Further west, Torchy’s also still has an open location in Lawrence.
  • “This was a difficult decision because of the impact on the people and the communities we love,” said a sign on the Overland Park restaurant’s doors on Wednesday. “The Overland Park & Kansas City area has welcomed us with open arms and we appreciate all the love you have shown us over the last 4 years.”
