Merriam is turning 75, and the city is inviting the entire community to join the celebration. The free, family-friendly Merriam 75th Birthday Party will take place Thursday, Oct. 23, from 4–8 p.m. at Merriam Marketplace (5740 Merriam Dr.).

This milestone marks more than just the passage of time — it’s a chance to recognize Merriam’s unique history, vibrant community spirit, and bright future.

What to expect at the party

The evening will feature something for everyone:

  • DJ and entertainment to keep the energy going
  • Birthday cake for everyone to enjoy
  • Games and activities for kids and families
  • Local food and drink vendors offering delicious options for purchase
  • Photo opportunities to capture the memories
  • A chance to celebrate with neighbors, friends, and the entire Merriam community

And of course, it wouldn’t be a birthday party without surprises along the way.

Why it matters

Merriam’s 75th birthday is more than a party — it’s a celebration of the people who make the city feel like home. From small businesses and local schools to neighborhoods and public spaces, the event highlights what makes Merriam “just right.”

“This is about coming together to honor Merriam’s past while looking forward to its future,” said Mayor Bob Pape. “We hope everyone will join us for this special evening.”
