KCMO jeweler wants to expand into JoCo with new Leawood storefront

The shop aims to open in Park Place in November, marking its debut in Johnson County.

Recently, a growing number of storefronts along Ash Street at the Park Place shopping center have taken on new life.

In September, a former taco eatery became LaPez Mod Mex, trading tacos for dishes like shrimp and grits and chile-braised short ribs. A week later, Smitten Booktique opened its new storefront nearby, offering all things romance.

Now, a couple of doors down from Smitten, something else is taking shape. After getting its start at Kansas City, Missouri’s River Market, jewelry store Dalia’s Silver Lining is gearing up to debut in Leawood later this year.

Pending renovations to the space, the shop aims to open in November, said owner Jael Ramon.

Dalia’s Silver Lining is coming to 11527 W. Ash St.

  • The shop is moving into a space just off 115th Street and Nall Avenue, near Smitten Booktique and gift shop Pink Antlers.
  • Bumblebee Macarons previously occupied that space.
  • Once it opens, Dalia’s Silver Lining’s regular hours in Leawood will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.

Dalia’s Silver Lining offers “one of a kind” jewelry pieces

Ramon said Dalia’s Silver Lining specializes in artisanal handmade pieces from Taxco, Mexico — a town in Mexico historically known for silver mining, and where his own family is also from.

The shop is known for items like sterling silver rings, earrings, necklaces, chains and pendants.

The shop also carries pieces from Damai Designs — an artisanal jewelry company that Ramon co-launched with his friends, Ravi and Vikas Chalal. That brand, he said, aims to elevate Balinese artisans and craftsmanship.

This marks Dalia’s Silver Lining’s JoCo debut

Ramon’s mother, Miriam Velasquez, began selling family-made jewelry as an outdoor vendor at City Market in 1996.

Ramon said the venture took off from there, growing into its own space at 400 Grand Blvd. and gaining the Dalia’s Silver Lining name in 2001.

Ramon said the name of the shop comes from the name of , Dalia — who served as a “silver lining” of a difficult time in Velasquez’s life when she was launching her business.

As of right now, Ramon said it’s unclear whether the Kansas City, Missouri, storefront will remain open due to impending development at the site — so the new Leawood store will either serve as a relocation or an expansion.

Regardless, he said he’d been eyeing Leawood for a while as a potential next stop for Dalia’s Silver Lining. Part of that was because the shop already has a customer base in Leawood, but he also said he personally enjoys the inviting atmosphere that Park Place has.

“I feel that (Park Place) has a very inviting experience where you can walk, you can sit down, you can listen to music,” he said. “Really, that was kind of the formula that helped us build a customer base in the River Market, where people kind of stumbled and found us. And we’ve kind of built relationships with those people through that experience.”
